A little in Somalia patiently waiting for international help.
All Internet social networks have turned in aid to Africa and the famine that passes the continent, this at the behest of the organization Save the Children, which launched an ambitious program of donations to bring relief to the local population.
The name of “I’m Gonna Be your friend” (I’ll be your friend) the organization seeks to collect funds for Somalia this week, that the African country suffers the buffeting of the worst drought in 50 years.
Food and water prices have skyrocketed and the issue threatens to exacerbate it. So far have killed 30,000 children because of the drought of the last 90 days.
The first aspect of this viral campaign on the Internet was the release of the video which is a retelling of the effort in which thousands of people live. It is set with the song “High Tide or Low Tide” by Bob Marley.
Watch the video here.
The second part of the effort is to use social networks to make known the cause and bring together funds that can be allocated to bring relief to affected areas. Well, Twitter, Facebook, Yahoo! And MSN among others have joined the programme, supported by celebrities.
Some personalities such as U2, the Rolling Stones, Rhianna, Elton John, Sting, Daddy Yankee, Eminem, Lady Gaga and Jay Z also promote the video and the information to its millions of followers through their accounts on Facebook and tagged # beafriend on Twitter.
Facebook has allowed news of efforts to run quickly around the world. The 750 million users globally can view the video about the crisis and how to help.
Individuals can help by donating directly from the http://www.imgonnabeyourfriend.org site or buying the Bob Marley song on iTunes. Of course, a great way to help is to pass the word on your Facebook or Twitter account.
